Equi Nutri Care Feeding Horses As Nature Intended

Independent nutritional advice for sport horses, breeding horses, leisure horses and horses with health issues

Pure, scientifically based advice, with no sales interests

General Nutrition Advice

This advice is intended for horses without a specific nutritional issue — from leisure horses to older horses and easy keepers. The daily ration is tailored to your horse’s individual needs, with attention to a good balance between forage, supplementary feed and management. Practical, achievable recommendations help improve the feeding and management system where needed. We look not only at what your horse eats, but also at its living environment and daily circumstances. This results in a balanced, sustainable feeding plan that supports your horse’s welfare and body condition while remaining practical to implement.

Clinical Nutrition Advice

This advice is intended for horses with specific health problems, such as colic, gastric ulcers, muscle problems or metabolic disorders. The ration and feeding management are tailored to the diagnosis, clinical signs and individual needs of the horse. We assess which nutritional factors may contribute to the problem and where nutrition can support recovery, veterinary treatment or ongoing management. Clinical nutrition advice is provided, where appropriate, alongside veterinary guidance and treatment. This results in a practical, evidence-based feeding plan that fits within the horse’s overall care.

Performance-focused Nutritional Advice

This advice is intended for horses whose nutrition needs to match the demands of their workload, training phase and discipline. We tailor energy provision, the amino acid profile, recovery support and the overall ration to the individual horse, the volume and intensity of training, and the type of work performed. We also take the specific discipline into account — such as dressage, show jumping, eventing or endurance — as well as the way the horse produces and uses energy during exercise. This creates a feeding strategy that supports the horse during exercise, muscle development and post-exercise recovery, without providing more than is actually needed.

Targeted feeding

Are you looking for an equine nutritionist without sales pitches or commercial interests? Welcome to Equi Nutri Care!

My name is Mira, a UK-trained and qualified equine nutritionist and the driving force behind Equi Nutri Care. I work from one core belief: The horse is central, not the sale

Since 2016, I have been supporting horse owners, trainers and breeders in formulating and optimising rations, with attention to health, body condition and performance where these can be influenced by nutrition.

Targeted feeding means that every component of the ration has a purpose and is tailored to what the individual horse actually needs.

Not more because it sounds good, and not less because it has to fit within a particular feeding philosophy.

That is why we look at the horse, the forage, the housing, the workload, the health status and the goal. From there, we determine what is needed - and what is not.

Nutrition that does no more and no less than what it needs to do.

Qualified

My knowledge is based on specialised training in equine nutrition and welfare, including UK Level 3 Equine Nutrition, further professional development at Level 5, and Equine Welfare and Management through UC Davis. I also continue to deepen my knowledge through international practical training weeks, workshops, clinics and conferences with renowned veterinary and nutritional experts from the UK and abroad.

Independent

Equi Nutri Care is not affiliated with any horse feed manufacturers or brands. This allows us to assess freely which feeds and products genuinely suit the individual horse, without commercial pressure or any obligation to recommend from our own product range. The horse’s welfare and individual needs always come first. This results in objective, evidence-based nutrition advice, free from commercial interests.

Scientific

Research into equine metabolism, nutritional requirements and health is constantly evolving. The composition and effects of feeds and nutrients, as well as the impact of changing conditions such as climate and the environment, are also receiving increasing attention. Equi Nutri Care bases its nutrition advice on current scientific knowledge, available research evidence and established best practices.

Open-minded

Equi Nutri Care assumes that every horse owner and carer acts to the best of their ability, based on their own knowledge, experience and circumstances. Not everyone has access to the same resources, and not everyone makes the same choices. We believe that every horse deserves the best possible feeding management within the circumstances available. That is why we work together with the owner or carer to find an approach that is practical, appropriate and evidence-based.

Why Choose Us

Does your horse have vague symptoms, recurring colic, or perform below expectations?

You are not alone. When symptoms are vague or recurring, nutrition and management may play a role - sometimes as part of the problem, and sometimes as an important part of support and recovery.

Take this Friesian gelding, for example. For unknown reasons, he was separated from his mother at just six weeks of age and, as a yearling, suffered a severe liver fluke infection. As a result, his young body had a great deal to cope with during an important stage of growth.

After treatment and recovery, his ration was reassessed at 20 months of age. Not to “treat” the condition he had experienced through nutrition, but to ensure that his diet supported his recovery and continued development as effectively as possible. His medical history, age, body condition and nutritional requirements were all taken into account.

He has since grown into an impressive Friesian, standing 168 cm at the withers.

That is what targeted feeding means to me: using nutrition where it can genuinely make a difference, without attributing more to it than it can deliver.
