Clinical Nutrition Advice
Nutrition is not an isolated treatment and consequently will not cure a condition. On the other hand, an appropriate diet does work to support the veterinarian's treatment. Consider, for example, EGUS, or better known as peptic ulcer.
Proper feed management also works symptom-fighting as in the case of allergies or intolerances or preventively, as in the case of horses prone to colic, for example.
Depending on the information already available, the condition and if your veterinarian is open to it, we prefer to work together with the treating veterinarian for optimal results.
Clinical nutritional advice is valuable in cases of EGUS, EGGD and ESGD, colic, laminitis (laminitis) Insulin resistance, PPID (cushing's), EMS, HYPP, PSSM 1 and 2, MFM, EPM, myopathy, allergies and intolerances, grass sickmness, liver and kidney disease and so on.

Performance-related Nutrition Advice
Regardless of whether a horse is a top athlete, pulls a have day's carriage with tourists or needs to knock out several hours of lessons at the riding school, a horse that needs performance has different needs than a recreational horse.
And while nutrition alone does not make a horse a top athlete, what performance horses eat and drink has a big impact on their performance and on their recovery after performance.
Therefore, it is important that the ration meet the nutritional requirements proportional to the efforts to be made and in accordance with the horse's nature.
Because the right amount of nutrients at the right time contribute to better muscle building, better performance, faster recovery after exercise and reduced risk of performance-related injuries.

Age-Related Nutrition Advice
Includes a complete assessment of the horse, housing and current ration.
Includes:
- weighing session on our mobile horse scale
- assessment of body condition according to the Henneke BCS scale
- report, an individual nutrition plan possibly supplemented by advice
If desired:
- manure test
- forage analysis
Age-related nutritional advice adds value if you want to be sure your horse is offered a balanced diet that provides all the necessary nutrients at all stages of life.
Young horses in growth especially need the right ratio of building blocks that support in physical development and strengthen the immune system.
For senior horses, it is especially important to ensure that they take in enough nutrients to maintain their weight and condition. In doing so, we must take into account any age-related condition. For example, muscle loss in senior horses is very often confused with weight loss. A BCS can then be very useful as a guide.
Reproduction-related Nutrition Advice
Reproduction
-related Nutrition Advice
Weight affects not only the mare's fertility but also the stallion's sperm quality. And what many horse owners don't know is that some ingredients that are nevertheless often found in commercial feeds also affect fertility.
Inadequate nutrition of pregnant mares can lead to developmental disorders. Consider Developmental Orthopedic Disease, a collective term for a cluster of orthopedic disorders in the growing foal.
Research has shown that the bacterial diversity of foals as young as 1 month old, determines the lifetime health of the horse.
So all the reasons to support stallions, broodmares and pregnant and lactating mares with the right nutrition.
Nutrition Rehabilitation
The treatment and recovery of some conditions require intensive effort on the part of the horse owner and caregiver.
Dividing a daily ration into small portions offered to the horse around the clock every two to four hours may sometimes be necessary in certain cases of gastroparesis and colic, for example.
Even though this is only a temporary measure for most conditions, such a nutritional regimen is not feasible for everyone.
Equi Nutri Care supports the horse owner and caretaker in this in various ways. Ranging from admission of the horse for the period of rehabilitation to ad interim care of the horse during the periods when the owner or caregiver cannot be available.
We also both offer nutrition training to guide the horse to a normal feeding schedule or one that is feasible for the owner and caregiver.
Weighing session
Annual weighing session with mobile horse scale, individual or group, with or without BCS, with or without feed advice
Weighing with our mobile horse scale, is the most accurate way to know how much your horse weighs.
This not only helps to feed the horse properly, but also says something about its overall health. In addition, it helps to dose medications and supplements correctly.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Equi Nutri Care deliberately chooses the term nutrition advisor rather than the commonly used nutritionist. Nutritionist, in our opinion, better reflects what we do and that is advising on what nutrition is best suited for your horse.
Moreover, by using the term nutritionist, we would pretend to know more than the professors and teachers we ourselves receive our training, workshops and clinics from since they do not call themselves nutritionists either.
No. At this time, Equi Nutri Care also does not employ veterinary nutrition consultants with veterinary degrees.
Therefore, Equi Nutri Care does not diagnose or provide treatments or treatment plans.
Our nutritional advice is supportive of the veterinarian's diagnosis and treatment. If a veterinarian has not yet been consulted, we will provide nutritional advice to the best of our ability, consistent with the information known at that time.
Nutrition is a crucial part of the management of healthy horses and horses suffering from nutritional and metabolic disorders, physiological problems and even behavioral problems.
A carefully controlled diet is necessary for the horse to recover or control conditions such as stomach ulcers, liver and kidney problems, myopathy, PPID, EMS, laminitis and so on.
But even in cases where the horse must perform, a balanced diet contributes to both performance and recovery afterward and reduces the risk of performance-related injuries.
In reproduction, the health of the stallion affects the quality of the semen, and the health of the mare determines the lifetime health of the foal.
Equi Nutri Care offers different formulas. Some consultations are 'all inclusive' with other consultations you can compose the package yourself by adding or omitting components.
Go to the web shop to view full content and practices.
The duration and price depend on the formula and modules chosen. A complete individual consultation on site takes on average two hours to two and a half hours and costs 275€, reporting, telephone follow-up and travel costs up to a radius of 25km included.
That depends entirely on your insurer and the type of policy.
Therefore, check with your insurance broker first. Even if the costs are reimbursed, be well informed about the conditions!
In fact, in our countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany,...) you are only recognized as a nutrition consultant if you are a veterinarian or if you have obtained a master's degree in Equine Science.
Not all insurers recognize a foreign degree or certification as an Equine Nutritionist.
A remote consultation is not site-specific and can be done anywhere but is more suitable for general advice.
An additional difficulty of remote consultation is consideration of local vegetation and the nutritional values of forage. In short, grass is not just grass and hay is not just hay.
On-site visits are of course possible. The price for visits within a radius of 25km around Ravels, is included in the fixed price of the consultation, unless explicitly mentioned otherwise. For individual visits outside the region of 25km, a kilometer fee of 0,45€/km is calculated based on the distance calculated by Google Maps for the fastest route from address to address and back.
At Equi Nutri Care, we understand that not everyone always has the ability to be available for a consultation during regular business hours.
Therefore, you can also schedule appointments that take place in the evening or on weekends.
Please note that appointments after 8 p.m. and appointments on Sundays and holidays are subject to a surcharge of 35%.
